Red
Mill Elementary's Administration
Message from the Principal: Academics is our first priority at Red Mill Elementary and our students have always been highly successful. Our students’ average SOL Pass rate, for all grades and all tests, is 97% and our Pass Advanced rate is an exceptional 67%. Of the fifty-five neighborhood schools in Virginia Beach, Red Mill has ranked in the top five for the past four years and we have had the highest SOL ranking in the city during 2007. Our staff is extremely talented and dedicated, and we are proud to have earned full accreditation on all state certification requirements for the past eleven years. We also value the importance of a well rounded program of instruction including extracurricular activities. Updating technology has been an ongoing goal and our state-of-the-art computer lab is supported by a full-time Computer Resource Specialist and Data Support Specialist. The lab houses thirty-two computers, networked printers, three mobile laptop carts with 20 laptops each, and two AlphaSmart Carts with 30 mini-wordprocessors. We have a wonderful science lab, a heated greenhouse, an ecosystem pond, several aquariums, and an outdoor learning lab on the creek behind our school. Our students also receive physical education every day and attend art, music, computer lab, and strings classes weekly. Red Mill also sponsors the only fifth grade band program for students in Southside Hampton Roads. Another wonderful benefit at Red Mill is the tremendous parent and community support that our students and teachers receive on a daily basis. We have a very successful and involved PTA, and our Partners in Education program has also been a great asset to the school. Parents have organized an academic enrichment program (PREP), tutoring classes, and nonacademic mini-courses that are taught after school. Parents and teachers will also sponsor afterschool science programs beginning this school year. Our parents and the surrounding community have been and will always be an integral part of our success. Thank you for visiting with us and we hope you have a great day. |
